UP spreading conspiracy theories & trying to crack down on opposition, media: Abhishek Singhvi

New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday accused the UP government of spreading conspiracy theories and trying to crackdown on the opposition and media. “There have been unnatural and weird responses by the powers after the incident. They clamped down on that area and on the victim’s family but not on the accused. No arrest of the accused for several days. I know of no law by which you can deny me access to the victims,” spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said at the AICC briefing on Wednesday.

He criticised the state government’s counter arguments. “A conspiracy theory against the whole world except itself. The worst conspiracy is to commit communal riots! As I said, those who have PhDs in such terrible activities are preaching to others about communal riots. Everybody is a co-conspirator.

Everybody is at fault. Congress, RLD, SP, BSP, Trinamool and Left parties – all are at fault – everybody in the country, except BJP and the UP chief minister…” “Another kind of conspiracy alleged by the chief minister is a conspiracy to destabilise and overthrow the government. And the strange reaction is to file cases under sedition laws. So, if I object and express strong words about this heinous killing, then I am charged with sedition 153(A) promoting enmity among groups. All these are not filed against the accused but against third parties. Diverse provisions of IPC and other special acts are being invoked.”
