The 43 mysterious ‘UFO’ sightings recorded in Cheshire over 13 years

One of life’s biggest questions is whether we are truly alone in the universe.

Across the globe there have been many reported unidentified flying objects (UFOs) sightings seen in the sky and unexplained happenings which don’t make sense.

Scientists are yet to prove beyond any doubt that alien life does exist, but claims of seeing extraterrestrial beings and UFOs are often reported.

Some of these claims – although questionable – have been officially recorded, collated and published on the government’s website for UFO sightings over the United Kingdom between 1997 and 2009.

The lists include 43 cases of strange objects being seen in the skies of Cheshire between this period.

Some of the reports are more detailed then some and range from bright lights to triangular and star shape objects in the sky.

Here are all 43 reports in Cheshire that the government logged in that time.

1997

January 26

A537/Chelford/Nr Macclesfield – at 8.40pm, one object, 50 metres across. Was round and dark, with white incandescent lights around it. With two very bright, red lights beneath it.

February 2

Chester – at 8.10pm an orange, round object that was very bright. Was high up and made a rapid downwards descent.

May 15

Runcorn – at 11.59pm, tail shaped objects, making snaking movements like a tail on a kids kite across the sky. They were orange and very bright

August 7

Northwich at 10.03pm, one bright, white light in the sky.

August 9

Wilmslow at 9.25pm, a bright light in the sky. It disappeared quickly, leaving a glow behind.

August 21

Blacon – there was one large circular object, with two smaller ones beside it. The larger one kept moving from side to side.

October 28

Madley near Crewe at 8.10pm, one triangular shaped object. Larger than a normal aircraft. It had three lights and one of them was red. It was stationary at first, but moved quickly away.

1998

January 3

Knutsford – at 10.05pm, one small, kite sized, leaf shaped object. Was bright red in colour. Moved very fast.

March 30

Malpas – at 10.50pm, the object was silent, and was changing from pale blue to green then yellow, and had one bright light. It moved erratically in the sky.

May 10

Nantwich – at 2am, a very large object was seen.

October 26

Crewe – at 7.10pm, , four triangular objects in formation. They were yellow/white in colour and were moving across the sky.

December 20

Warrington – at 6pm, a large bright triangle, grey on the perimeter. Three orange lights on each point. Travelled across the sky not particularly fast.

Knutsford – at 4.30pm, oval, grey, single object – approx. 6ft. Was heading South.

1999

February 4

M56 towards Chester – at 12.20am, one, circular object, very dark with four permanent red lights and three to four pulsating lights.

March 17

Shavington/Crewe at 11.30pm, one star sized object, brighter than a star. Stationary at first and then moved Westward.

October 2

Woolston/Warrington – a beam of light was seen over a school. A noise was then heard, but not that of a plane or helicopter.

2000

January 9

Runcorn – at 2.45am, one round, golf ball shaped object. Orange and white in colour and very bright. Moving East.

January 9

Cheshire – at 6.06pm, the object eclipsed the moon. The object was a ring shape.

April 16

Beeston – at 8pm, a very bright light in the sky was pulsing and changing shape. Then the object, ‘went out like a light, and disappeared’.

July 9

Wilmslow – a UFO.

July 22

Crewe – at 12.20pm, something in the sky lighting up the back garden – light went with it, when the object moved.

August 27

Runcorn – at 12.47am, red and other coloured lights going on and off. Moving from North to South.

August 29

Runcorn – at 4.18am, a silver dot moving through the sky.

October 21

Knutsford – at 6.45am, a triangular shaped aircraft. Light on each point of the triangle. Large fluorescent tube – the full length of the trailing edge.

2001

August 27

Nantwich – at 9pm, eight to nine smokeless flares. Two were falling – parallel.

August 27

Poynton – at 7.35pm, a circular object with a depression in the middle. Was a grey/metallic colour. Very bright. It was emitting smoke.

December 31

Crewe – at 6.45pm, a ball, really bright. Was lower than an aircraft and moving in a straight line. (Message taken 17 Feb 2001).

2002

No sightings.

2003

January 25

Chester – at 7.08pm, bright lights moving from side to side.

July 13

Winterley – at 8.30pm, appeared like a star, possibly a balloon.

October 16

Macclesfield – at 11.40pm, an object like a disc was in the sky heading West.

2006

February 28

Crewe – at 10pm, very bright lights were seen for over half an hour. They were hovering quite slowly from side to side.

June 18

Macclesfield – at 6.45pm, a spinning object, which appeared to have a triangular shaped part on either side of it. Was a grey metallic colour, almost dull

2007

December 9

M56/Altrincham/Warrington – at 9.30pm, at first sight, the object looked like a big, stationary flying saucer. At another angle, it then looked like two perfectly formed triangles. They had white lights with a tinge of red and green in them, like halogen lights.

2008

June 15

Waverton/Chester – at 10.45pm, a formation of eighteen lights. They appeared like a ‘flock of helicopters’ with lights on. They gave off no sound, but there was a slight rattle.

December 1

Wettenhall/Winsford at 6.50pm, a crest shaped object moving to the South East at the rear of the witness’s property.

2009

January 3/4

Sandbach – a UFO. An orange/yellow light.

May 9

Northwich – at 10.10pm, four big lights in a line formation. Two dropped down and the other two moved off quickly into the distance

May 23

Winsford – at 11pm, an orange light travelling from the south. It was followed by two more orange lights on the same path, then five more and then two more. They made no noise but were at the height of a helicopter.

August 6

Chester – at 9.25pm, orb shape, glowing on underside only. Orange colour. Orange faded and object looked like a black shadow.

October 10

Widnes – at 12.20pm, fourteen objects one every minute, no sound

November 29

Hill Green – at 12.25am, two orange lights moving slowly over Wilmslow veered off in a different direction. No noise and flashing flights not aircraft.
