Sidney Powell files federal lawsuits alleging high-tech 2020 voter fraud

Powell’s lawsuits argue election systems software and other methods were used to shift votes away from Trump to the benefit of projected President-elect Joe Biden in the two key battleground states.

The suits allege a high-tech and election fraud cabal was put in place to shift the Electoral College landscape. Political, media and legal critics of the suits dismiss and discount them as far-fetched conspiracy theories.

Biden won Georgia by 12,670 votes and Michigan by 154,188 votes, according to election counts.

Powell contends more than 200,000 votes were illegally counted for Biden, according to court documents.

The conservative attorney — who is no longer officially part of the Trump campaign’s legal team — makes a similar game-changing claim in Georgia.

“Expert analysis of the actual vote set forth below demonstrates that at least 96,600 votes were illegally counted during the Georgia 2020 general election. All of the evidence and allegation herein is more than sufficient to place the result of the election in doubt,” the lawsuit reads.

The lawsuits center on the use of voting and election software as well as links to foreign powers and opponents of Trump who all allegedly worked to benefit Biden in key battlegrounds. Biden has been projected the winner of the 2020 race and states are certifying those results.

A number of other election suits brought by the Trump campaign have failed to gain traction in state courts in key states carried by Biden in the 2020 race. A federal appeals court also rejected a Trump campaign lawsuit in Pennsylvania.

A Pennsylvania judge, however, put a temporary stop to the certification of Biden’s win in that state to hear arguments about mail-in ballots. A Nevada judge has agreed to hear the Trump campaign’s evidence about voting irregularities in that state.

Both states were also narrowly carried by Biden.

Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis also said Friday that Republicans in the Arizona Legislature will host hearings on potential voting irregularities in that state. Biden carried Arizona by 10,457 votes. 

Powell’s lawsuits are filed against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and election officials in those states.

While the suits are not filed against the companies’ who developed and deployed the voting systems in the two states, one of those firms, Dominion Voting Systems, took direct aim at Powell’s lawsuits.

“While Dominion Voting Systems is not named as a defendant, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Sidney Powell released what appears to be a very rough draft of a lawsuit against the Republican governor and secretary of state of Georgia alleging a bizarre election fraud conspiracy that—were it possible—would necessarily require the collaboration of thousands of participants, including state officeholders, bipartisan local elections officials, thousands of volunteer Election Day poll watchers in thousands of locations across the state of Georgia, federal and state government technology testing agencies, private elections service companies, and independent third-party auditors,” the company statement reads.

“This quite simply did not occur. Dominion Voting Systems is the gold standard for transparent and accountable voting equipment. The allegations included in the draft complaint are baseless, senseless, physically impossible, and unsupported by any evidence whatsoever. We stand with the state and local elected officials and bipartisan election volunteers that this suit maliciously maligns,” the statement continues.

The company faulted Powell’s federal lawsuits on numerous fronts.

Projected President-elect Biden has mostly ignored the challenges and Trump’s continued assertions of voter fraud.

Biden has been putting together cabinet picks and has talked publicly about the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also mostly ignored Trump’s refusal to concede and the various legal challenges to the results.

“This is the moment where we need to steel our spines, redouble our efforts, and recommit ourselves to the fight against COVID-19,’ Biden said on Twitter on Friday.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to his drumbeat that the election was “rigged” and refuses to concede.

Trump has started questioning Biden’s record popular vote totals which has surpassed 80 million nationwide.

“Biden can only enter the White House as President if he can prove that his ridiculous “80,000,000 votes” were not fraudulently or illegally obtained. When you see what happened in Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia & Milwaukee, massive voter fraud, he’s got a big unsolvable problem!,” Trump said via Twitter.

The continued fights over the election results are an unprecedented chapter in American elections and they are creating obvious divisions.

Democrats and more moderate and anti-Trump Republicans — including Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan — want Trump to concede and cooperate with Biden’s transition into power.

Hogan has said Trump’s refusal to quit and claims of fraud make the U.S. look like “a banana republic”.

Trump’s strongest supporters — including U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md-1st and conservative Delaware advocate Lauren Witzke — want him to continue pressing his challenges on the 2020 election front.
