State Democrats call Republicans behavior ‘reckless’ upon hearing of state Sen. Mastriano’s positive COVID-19 test

On Sunday the Associated Press reported that Republican state Senator Doug Mastriano tested positive for the coronavirus while meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.Representative Malcolm Kenyatta had the following to say on the matter:“The PA House and Senate GOP have consistently put their Democratic colleagues and Capitol staff at risk with their reckless behavior. GOP members have tested positive, and they only tell Republicans. They refuse to wear masks, even in small committee rooms. They’ve held COVID and conspiracy super-spreader events that threaten the health of Pennsylvanians and our Democracy. This is a horrific virus, and I hope everyone who contracts it recovers quickly. Still, there are things we can do to mitigate it. Over and over again, they refuse to embrace basic science. This pandemic doesn’t care about political party or position. All of us must model good behavior and help get this thing under control — period. I wish Sen. Mastriano and anyone else impacted a speedy recovery and pray that they model behavior like mask wearing that keeps us all safe.”Two weeks ago, State Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, a Democrat representing the 184th district in Philadelphia County, filed an official complaint with the Pennsylvania Department of Health regarding the unsafe working conditions at the PA State House. The status of the complaint is unknown at this time. Sen. Mastriano has been an outspoken critic of Gov. Tom Wolf’s mitigation efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Lt. Gov. John Fetterman had the following to say on the matter:”Even if you don’t care about yourself. If you’re not afraid of the virus you probably have someone in your life that would not do well. or your neighbor or your friends. Everyone has someone that they love who cant afford to get this virus.”
