2020 Election

Wolf calls any allegation of election fraud ‘a shameful lie’

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Before violent rioters forced their way into the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, where Republican lawmakers were challenging Joe Biden’s Electoral College win, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf pushed back against ongoing claims of fraud and disinformation.

Any claim that the election in Pennsylvania was compromised “is a shameful lie,” he said.

The governor said claims of voter fraud have repeatedly been disproved, yet Republicans continue to push the false narrative.

“They are purposely spreading disinformation about our elections for personal, political gain. That’s shameful and that’s destructive and I cannot let it stand unchallenged,” he said.

Wolf pointed out that former Attorney General Bill Barr confirmed there was no widespread fraud, and Chris Krebs, who oversaw election cybersecurity for the Trump administration, called this election the most secure in U.S. history.

During the beginning of the congressional meeting Wednesday, Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican, asked his GOP colleagues to accept Biden’s win.

“I voted for President Trump, I publicly endorsed President Trump,” Toomey said. “(But) there is something more important to me than having my preferred candidate sworn in as the next president. And that’s to have the American people’s chosen candidate sworn in as the next president.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also rejected GOP lawmakers’ challenge to the election results.
