US: Congressional committee orders publication of report on UFOs
The publication of a report detailing government knowledge of ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ (UAP) has been ordered.
The director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense must provide an unclassified report on UAP, another term for unidentified flying objects, within six months, to the Congressional Intelligence and Armed Services Committees.
The order for the report was included in a document accompanying the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021.
It directs the report to include, among other things: “A detailed analysis of data of the FBI, which was derived from investigations of intrusions of unidentified aerial phenomena data over restricted United States airspace” and “identification of any incidents or patterns that indicate a potential adversary may have achieved breakthrough aerospace capabilities that could put United States strategic or conventional forces at risk”.
While the report should be unclassified it may contain a classified annex.
