Talking to Naomi Wolf is like walking through a blizzard. There is a hail of opinion, a lot of bluster and an occasional glimmer of clear sky. Mostly though, it is just very hard work.
Until quite recently, Wolf was a darling of the liberal left. Her first book, The Beauty Myth, which was published in 1990, is credited with kick-starting feminism’s “third wave”. Since then she has written another seven bestsellers, served on Bill Clinton’s re-election campaign in 1996 and as a consultant for Al Gore in the late nineties. Lately, though, things have taken a surprising turn. Since March 2020 she has become a crusader against lockdown restrictions, mandatory masks and vaccine passports.
