The Pennsylvania Department of State has tried to obstruct the forensic investigation of 2020 elections within the state. Late last week, state election officials sent a directive to individual counties, which urged them to not allow access to outside parties who seek to examine voting systems.

The directive alleged access by forensic teams would “undermine chain of custody.” State GOP lawmakers said the acting Pennsylvania Secretary of State, appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf (D-Pa.), has tried to cover up the evidence of fraud. However, the forensic investigation was set to continue under the subpoena power of the state legislature.

“In the days and weeks leading up to the election last year…we had the Pennsylvania Department of State repeatedly alter the manner in which elections were conducted,” Sen. Doug Mastrian (R-Pa.) explained. “This constantly changing guidance not only contradicted the election code that we voted for, but also conflicted with decisions by both the Pennsylvania and U.S. Supreme Courts.”

State Senate President Jake Corman (R-Pa.) responded to the directive and said it was a partisan decision that contradicts the Senate’s power of oversight.
