Spike Lee edits 9/11 conspiracy theorists out of HBO’s ‘NYC Epicenters’ docuseries

Spike Lee has changed the final episode of his eight-part HBOdocuseries “NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½” which originally included interviews with 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

The Oscar-winning director announced in a statement Wednesday that he was re-editing the controversial episode.

“I’m Back In The Editing Room And Looking At The Eighth And Final Chapter Of NYC EPICENTERS 9/11➔2021½,” he said in a statement sent to TV critics.  “I Respectfully Ask You To Hold Your Judgment Until You See The FINAL CUT.”

A new version of the final episode, now available to the media,  is 30 minutes shorter and no longer features interviews with members of the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

US director Spike Lee arrives on July 16, 2021 to attend the amfAR 27th Annual Cinema Against AIDS gala at the Villa Eilenroc in Cap d'Antibes, southern France, on the sidelines of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

The first two hours of the miniseries aired Sunday, and will continue this weekend (8 EDT/PDT). The final two are set to arrive on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks (10 EDT/PDT).

On Monday, the New York Times published an interview with Lee, in which he was asked about featuring interviews in the docuseries with people who question the cause of the Twin Towers’ collapse.

“I mean, I got questions,” Lee said, expressing doubts about the official explanation for the buildings’ collapse. “And I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing about 9/11.”

The director added that people who watch the series are “going to make up their own mind. My approach is put the information in the movie and let people decide for themselves,” he said. “I respect the intelligence of the audience.”
