Revealed: One third of EFL footballers have no plans to get coronavirus vaccine

Almost a third of English Football League players have not been vaccinated against coronavirus and have no plans to get jabbed, research laying bare the lack of take-up within football has found.

Telegraph Sport can reveal that the Premier League and EFL have been collecting data this season on the number of footballers in their competitions to have been inoculated against Covid-19 amid mounting fears many are refusing to be immunised, putting themselves, others and the integrity of the game at risk.

Telegraph Sport has been told data collected by the EFL last month shows around 70 per cent of players at its 72 clubs had received at least one dose of vaccine or were intending to get jabbed.

The EFL declined to comment on the figure or provide a further breakdown amid questions about just how few footballers had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Telegraph Sport has been unable to obtain an equivalent figure for the 20 Premier League clubs, although three of them – Leeds United (96 per cent double-jabbed), Wolverhampton Wanderers (100 per cent) and Brentford (89 per cent single- or double-jabbed) – have already gone public with their immunisation rates.
