The curious past of the West Ham bid team
On September 25, 2019, West Ham fans were in shock. The team were thrashed 4-0 away at Oxford United.
As the goals flew in, spectators at a very different event 50 miles away at Chelsea Old Town Hall were left equally aghast. They were told 5G, the latest generation of mobile internet, was a weapons system designed to kill people. Sitting among the panel of “experts” at the event, dubbed “5G Apocalypse”, was Chris Cleverly, who is now among a colourful group of characters trying to buy West Ham.
He is a partner at PAI Capital, which has been vocal about its efforts to take over the historic east London club and its stadium in Stratford, the main venue for the London 2012 Olympics.
