President Macron debunks conspiracy theories | World
President Macron has set up a commission charged with fighting the conspiracy theories that he believes are a “poison” threatening French society.
The members of the commission, Enlightenment in the Digital Era, will include about 15 academics, as well as journalists, teachers and lawyers. They have been asked to produce a report on topics such as how to prevent internet algorithms “enslaving” society, how advertisers exploit fake news and how to stop foreign powers spreading conspiracy theories.
However, with the French presidential election looming in April, Macron was accused of trying to impose an “official” narrative to help him to win a second term of office against far-right populists such as Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally, and Éric Zemmour,
