Covid victim Joe McCarron ‘given Ivermectin’ after antivaxers convinced him to leave hospital
Gardai investigating the death of Joe McCarron, the Donegal man who died in September from Covid-19 after being encouraged to leave hospital by anti-vaccine campaigners, have been told he was provided with the veterinary drug Ivermectin to cure the disease.
Gardai suspect the drug was delivered to McCarron’s home shortly after he left Letterkenny University Hospital and was subsequently removed on the night he died by those who provided it.
Ivermectin, mostly used to deworm livestock, has been touted as a miracle treatment for Covid-19 on social media by conspiracy theorists. It is not approved for the treatment of the disease.
The drug can sometimes be used in humans to treat parasitic worms but it is more commonly given to animals to prevent heartworm disease.
