Fact Check-Buzz Aldrin tweet denying moon landings is fake
Social media users are sharing a fabricated tweet attributed to astronaut Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., the second man on the moon, about the moon landing being faked.
Examples can be seen here and here .
The tweet reads: “It’s time I confess; The Apollo 11 missions, which landed man for the first time on the moon, was staged, none of it was real.”
The image shows the correct username for Aldrin’s Twitter account twitter.com/TheRealBuzz . However, no such tweet exists from Nov. 6, 2014, according to archives of Aldrin’s Twitter page here .
The same screenshot of the tweet appears in an article by the Huzlers website here , which describes itself as “a satirical and fictional entertainment blog producing content in such a complex way that it could not conveniently be presented or represented anywhere else but Huzlers” on its “About Us” page www.huzlers.com/about-us/ .
Robert Charles, a representative for Aldrin, confirmed to Reuters via email that the allegation is false.
“That tweet is an utter fraud, would never happen,” Charles said. “Completely false.”
VERDICT
False. The post shows a screenshot of a tweet attributed to astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The tweet was fabricated for a satire article.
