Ottawa judge grants injunction to silence truckers’ protest
The convoy of lorry drivers and antivaccine mandate protesters occupying Canada’s capital must stop their incessant honking, a judge ruled last night, marking a legal victory for frustrated residents.
The ruling by an Ontario superior court judge was made as police in Ottawa began cracking down on demonstrators. The protest has entered its 11th day, with roads still gridlocked and thousands of residents confined to their homes.
The city is under a state of emergency with Jim Watson, the mayor, calling the situation “completely out of control”. On Sunday night, police began confiscating fuel and making arrests.
