The ‘Great Reset’ is an initiative of the World Economic Forum, aimed at rebuilding our society and economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic
A tweet attributed to the World Economic Forum, in which the organisation’s Executive Chairman, Klaus Schwab, is shown advocating Internet reform as part of something called the ‘Great Reset’, is doing the rounds on social media.
In the screenshot of the tweet, shared on Facebook by a user named Perry Carditis, Mr. Schwab is quoted as saying, “The internet must be reformed, there is too much misinformation out there. This will be the next step for the Great Reset.”
The ‘Great Reset’ is an initiative of the World Economic Forum, aimed at rebuilding our society and economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But since its inception in 2020, the term has become the subject of a wide range of conspiracy theories, with the common thread being a deep-rooted suspicion of the ‘global elite’.
It is in this context that the social media post was shared.
The first red flag was that ‘Schwab’ was misspelt in the post. The font of the tweet also seemed odd.
We searched WEF’s official Twitter handle and couldn’t find any such tweet corresponding with the date and time mentioned in the screenshot.
When contacted, Susanne Grassmeier, Executive Assistant to the Chairman, World Economic Forum, said, “This is definitely a case of fake news. It has nothing to do with the World Economic Forum, and has no base in facts.”

The post is fake. The WEF chief did not make any such claim.
