UFOs Over Connecticut: Town-By-Town Sightings
CONNECTICUT — Since its founding in 1974, the National UFO Reporting Center has processed over 150,000 reports of unexplained aerial phenomena in the United States. Based on a Patch survey of the data, nearly 1,800 of those sightings occurred above Connecticut.
The National UFO Reporting Center is a non-profit Washington State corporation, and unaffiliated with any of the (increasingly politicized) government agencies tasked with tracking the goings-on overhead.
The principal means used by the Center to receive sighting reports is its website, which has operated continuously since 1994. Prior to that, a telephone hotline and the U.S. mail were the primary means of taking reports.
The website and hotline are the go-to resources for law enforcement agencies, the FAA, National Weather Services offices, military facilities, NASA, and many 911 emergency dispatch centers across the country. If you call the cops to report a UFO, chances are their next call is to NUFORC.

Connecticut has always been a UFO magnet, but what town gets the most ET action? Here’s the state data, mapped, going back over 50 years:
Norwalk (61 sightings) and Manchester (59) are at the top of the list, but there’s a caveat. Both those towns’ entries include automated sky surveillance reports as well as human sightings.
The skywatching tech is known as MADAR, for “Multiple Anomaly Detection & Automated Recording.” The network of surveillance nodes is triggered by rapid barometric and electromagnetic changes in the atmosphere — the traditional space alien fingerprints. It can also be used to corroborate human sightings. NUFORC tracks the machine sightings right alongside the reports captured by human eyeballs. The five Connecticut MADAR nodes maintained at New London, Newington, Norfolk, Wallingford and Manchester have been working together for the last several years to run monthly skywatches in the state.
Beyond the cluster of to-be-expected sightings around the state’s MADAR sites, there does not seem to be any geographic pattern to the reports. The largest number of sightings above a town not located near a robot watcher is Milford’s 56.
And make no mistake, Milford’s had some corkers.

Three residents reported seeing five “silver saucers” hovering over Long Island Sound, near Walnut Beach, on Mar. 6, 2017 at 4:15 a.m. The show lasted an entire hour.
On Aug. 17, 2016, a Milford jogger and his neighbors say they spied a “giant projector screen between two flashing, multicolored lights” above Bay View Beach. Witnesses reported “shifting messages, circles to squares to blank, etc.” One testimony speculated about a “possible electromagnetic effect,” claiming their iPhone 5 was tossed into airplane mode during the visitation.
Another Milford skywatcher reported a cohort of UFOs trying to send a message in the sky above Gulf Beach on Aug. 25, 2013, around 6:30 p.m. Up to eight lights faded in and out, moved side-to-side, and formed “various formations.” The spectacle carried on for 45 minutes. Five more sightings over the course of two months in the same neighborhood would seem to indicate that Gulf Beach is an “A” list space alien haunt.
Lately, however, the UFOs have been congregating a little bit further south, over Stamford. Since May 18, there have been eight separate reports of space alien shenanigans above The City That Works.
It’s not all the same crew, either.
Recent Stamford entries in the NUFORC database include eyewitness descriptions of a “bright grainy ball shaped object,” “metal flying saucer,” “brightly lit flying sphere,” “triangle of 3 spheres,” and a “spaceship the size of a few football fields.”
According to the narrative in the NUFORC archive, the visit from the gridiron-sized craft seemed almost biblical:
“The moon like light appeared in the sky with 2 color rings around it. The light had the letter U on it. There we’re beams of light that passed through this light. The light was attached to the massive space craft that was massive and enshrined in a thick like cloud. The space craft hovered in one spot behind our building. There are smaller alien air planes below the space ship…”
Our kind of party.
