The anti-vax All-Star the Dodgers have ‘looked at’ ahead of MLB Trade Deadline – ClutchPoints

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. They sit 59-30, which is good for a nine-and-a-half-game lead in the National League West.

There isn’t much in the way of weakness on the roster for the Dodgers. The upcoming August 2nd trade deadline for them is about fortifying the roster as they prepare for a deep postseason run.

And it seems as if they are looking to do just that. Jon Heyman of the New York Post named the Dodgers as one favorite for Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Luis Castillo.

Heyman also dropped this nugget, revealing the team is looking into a former American League All-Star.

“The Dodgers have looked at Whit Merrifield, whose 553 consecutive-game streak was halted by a big toe injury the day before it would have been halted due to hitting the restricted list as the team went to Toronto,” Heyman wrote.

Merrifield has found himself in some hot water as of late. The 33-year-old was one of 10 Kansas City Royals players who didn’t travel to Toronto with the team because of their vaccination status.

As Heyman notes, his vaccination status may decrease his trade value. Teammate Andrew Benintendi has already seen his trade value lower due to his vaccine status.

However, that may not matter for the Dodgers. Los Angeles doesn’t play the Blue Jays at all the rest of the season. And the only way they’d play the Jays is if both teams reached the World Series.

Furthermore, Merrifield has said that the opportunity to play postseason baseball could sway him to get the vaccine. The Dodgers would certainly provide that opportunity.

We will have to wait and see if the Dodgers go for the 33-year-old veteran. However, this is something to monitor leading up to August 2nd.
