Watch Chickens Returning to Their UFO Coop in Bizarre Video

An out-of-this-world chicken coop has delighted the internet this week after a picture captured viral attention.

While there is no official count on the number of people in the U.S. who raise and own their own chickens, a 2013 study by USDA predicted that by 2019, five percent of Americans—13 million people—would have their own backyard birds.

These predictions seem to have come true, as in April 2020 google searches for “chicken coop” were up by 100 percent, while searches for “chicken care” are up 53 percent since 2013.

As the cost of living problem continues to rise in the U.S., the desire for self-reliance is increasing for families across the country.

A hatchery in Connecticut, My Pet Chicken, reported that by the first week of March in 2022, their sales were already 98 percent up on the previous year’s figures.

But chickens need somewhere to call home, and unusual chicken house was shared on Reddit on Sunday by user u/Kolesekare on the forum r/ThatsInsane. It has received more than 16,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments.

“Love it,” said one commenter. While another Reddit user wrote: “This is hilarious!”

The Redditor shared the post after receiving the video from his friend, Odřich Tichý/ Pilsen who is from South Czechia. Created after an idea from his girlfriend, Tichý/ Pilsen spent around 40 hours building the custom coop which was completed in just over three months.

He told Newsweek: “It functions as a coop and it’s pretty similar to most coops, but it’s round and a little smaller in size.”

Home to seven chickens and six chicks, the birds seem pretty pleased with their new home.

Another reply on the viral post joked that they were: “Chicken Invaders,” while one commenter suggested: “Should have a little toy cow underneath it.”

Agricultural retailer Blain’s Farm and Fleet say that ensuring your chickens have the perfect coop requires a few simple steps. Now available in a variety of designs, they say that all coops should have the following elements: “Four walls, a roof, proper ventilation, nesting boxes, and roosts/perches.”

Meanwhile, many coops are also connected to a chicken run so that your hens can stretch their legs and enjoy some fresh air.

“The chickens are like ‘F it, we’re beating Elon to Mars’,” joked one commenter.

Another viewer of the video said: “I want one.”

Tichý/ Pilsen said he wasn’t too worried about the video going viral, but did feel pleased that people enjoyed seeing his creation.

“Far out man,” said another reply: “Alien chickens, a new Netflix series.”
