Austrian doctor hounded to death by vicious antivax hate campaign
An Austrian doctor who encouraged people to get jabbed has become a tragic martyr in the fight against online hate after committing suicide in her surgery following months of death threats from antivaxers.
Thousands of Austrians have attended candle-lit vigils this week for Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, 36, who was dismissed as an attention-seeker by police after she gave media interviews and posted tweets complaining that she wasn’t getting enough protection.
She was found dead last Friday, a month after she had closed her surgery saying she could no longer afford to run it, having spent €100,000 (£84,200) on alarm systems, a security gate and a private guard. On four occasions, bogus patients were caught trying to enter the surgery armed with butterfly knives.
