Hope Hicks told Donald Trump there was no evidence of election fraud and he was ‘damaging his legacy’

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks told the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, that she insisted to President Trump there was no evidence of election fraud. In testimony, Hicks said she was concerned Trump would damage his legacy, and he responded, “Nobody will care about my legacy if I lose.”

HOPE HICKS: I was becoming increasingly concerned that we were damaging– we were damaging his legacy.

What did the President say in response to what you just described?

HOPE HICKS: He said something along the lines of nobody will care about my legacy if I lose, so that won’t matter. The only thing that matters is winning.
