AN ELITE cop believes the truth is out there after being swamped with UFO reports from fellow officers.

Roy Teague, an inspector with the West Midlands force, teamed up with retired detective John Hanson to write a book about police sightings, entitled Policing the Haunted Skies.

Roy is hoping to repeat the success after receiving scores of new reports which he couldn’t squeeze into one book.

Roy, who works in the armed response team, said: “Earlier this year I put out an appeal to police and support staff, whether currently serving or retired, who had been a witness to or investigated a UFO incident.

“The response was so overwhelming that they were impossible to fit into a single book so I am now working on Volume 2.

“Any information provided to me will be treated in the strictest of confidence and, if requested, anonymity is absolutely assured.”

Roy became interested in UFOs when he turned the television on after getting home from a late shift.

By pure chance he ended up watching a documentary about mysterious sightings above air bases in the USA.

He said: “At the back of my mind I couldn’t but wonder why hundreds of military personnel would make up such a fantastical story?

“For me, it’s those that are in professional occupations who give more detailed evidence than perhaps others do by virtue of their training.”

As his fascination with the subject grew, he began to collect information on UK sightings and decided to record his findings in book form.

He said the reason for writing and publishing a book on the subject was simple: “I want to know the truth. Are we alone in the universe or not?”

Last year, former detective John Hanson opened a real life X-Files office packed with 250,000 documents dating back more than 40 years.

People can visit the retired West Midlands detective’s UFO centre in Alcester, Warwickshire, via appointment.

His interest in UFOs began in 1995 after his son Chris, a PC, along with other bobbies responded to 999 calls about a UFO seen over Birmingham.

John, 76, said: “The public [were] reporting an object with a blue tail and dark blue head seen racing over the City Centre, at about 6.15pm.

“A doctor in Moseley then saw it drop down from the sky over the Stirchley area.

“The two officers interviewed the doctor and, while on the way back, saw a fat elliptical object with a blue field around it, with a line of rippling red through the middle, hovering over a copse of trees.

“Within seconds, it shrank into itself and disappeared. I thought they were joking.”

Witnesses in the Oxford area later reported seeing a ‘D’ shaped object following the contours of the land.

He went on to have his own UFO sightings including one with his son when they saw two huge ‘globes’ the size of dustbin lids moving across the night sky over Alvechurch.
