Conspiracy theorists stain Bulley case even after body is found

With her spaniel in tow, it was a walk Nicola Bulley had done “a thousand times” — and yet it was to become a mystery that would grip Britain.

The three weeks in which her whereabouts were unknown drew interventions from the prime minister and the home secretary, and have tarnished the reputation of the police force investigating the case.

Yesterday a body was found in their search. Before that discovery was made public, the Bulley family was informed that Lancashire police had been called to reports of a body in the River Wyre about a mile from where her phone and dog were found on January 27. Her relatives were told that a body had been recovered by an underwater team. Until formal identification
