‘Real good!’: QAnon forums convinced Trump indictment is great news – SFGATE
Although an indictment would make Trump the first current or former president to face criminal charges, QAnon forums are buzzing with excitement.
“Only anons would be happy about this,” wrote one follower, who call themselves “anons.” “We know the game and we love watching this movie :)”
“MyPresident is a genius! This show is getting real good!” added another.
The reason for their excitement? Some have convinced themselves that Trump’s legal peril was foretold by Q in 2019 (Believers think a high level military or government insider has been posting anonymously online for years. Q often sounds like a mix of Nostradamus and your Facebook-addicted uncle, throwing out vague predictions mixed with 1980s and ‘90s pop culture references.)
Among Q’s most famous predictions is a December 2019 post that reads: “First indictment [unseal] will trigger mass pop awakening. First arrest will verify actions and confirm future direction.” For years, anons have believed this refers to a Democratic enemy, usually Hillary Clinton, Clinton’s former campaign chair John Podesta or, more recently during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Now, with none of those people on the hook for legal consequences, QAnon forums have pivoted to believing it is Trump’s arrest that will kick off “the storm.” Much like a doomsday religion, they continually believe they’re on the brink of a “storm” of punishment toward their perceived enemies; the precipice has been on the horizon now, with no actual movement, since Q began posting in 2017.
Anons’ twisted, tortured logic has led many of them to believe that Trump being arrested will awaken the rest of the world to liberal politicians’ sinister agenda. Once that happens, a majority of Americans will be converted to their far-right ideology — or so their wishful thinking goes. They’re so excited Trump’s indictment will “wake up” the masses that they’re even speculating, without a shred of proof, that adult star Stormy Daniels was in on the plan all along.
“It couldn’t get more coincidental than this,” one poster wrote, commenting on the fact she uses the word “storm” in her professional name. “I have zero doubt she’s part of the plan. What makes a great movie? Great actors/actresses.”
Some have even gone so far as to suggest the timeline of the arrest may line up with the Easter holiday, drawing parallels to Trump and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “I hope they do a perp walk,” an anon wrote. “It’s going to be a glorious boomerang.”
This isn’t the first — and it likely won’t be the last — time QAnon adherents turn a negative on its head to suit their narratives. Back in 2021, they were sure California Gov. Gavin Newsom was on his way to being recalled. When he wasn’t, they backtracked and proclaimed his landslide victory was a good thing because it would convince Californians of the existence of widespread voter fraud. It did not.
