Meet the ‘Disinformation Dozen’, a collection of 12 prominent anti-vaxxers accused of playing leading roles in spreading digital misinformation about coronavirus vaccines to their large number of followers.
The term was coined by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) as part of their investigation and report into the spread of disinformation on social media.
These 12 people were allegedly so influential in the anti-vax community, that 65% of anti-vaccine content was attributable to them during a sample period between February 1 and March 16, 2021.
During that same period, 73% of anti-vax content on Facebook originated with members of the ‘Disinformation Dozen’ and 17% of all anti-vaccine tweets featured these 12 individuals, the CCDH report claims/
Last week however saw the death of one of these conspiracy theorists, as Dr Rashid Buttar passed away suddenly on Saturday (May 20).
Just days prior to his death, he had claimed that he had been given a “poison” containing “200 times of what was in the vaccine.”
