UFOs Over Connecticut: Circles, Fireballs And A ‘Cube-Like Craft’
CONNECTICUT — Where have all the space aliens gone?
A year and a half ago, we were all a bit startled by the uptick in the number of unidentified aerial phenomena (the government’s official new term for UFOs) above Connecticut. Now, it seems that spaceman mission control has issued a course correction, steering the galactic armada away from our state.
Or maybe they’re all still buzzing around, but we just can’t be bothered to post them to the National UFO Reporting Center database. Connecticut sky watchers have reported just 18 UFO sightings into the NURC database since the start of the year, 11 fewer than the last five months of 2022.
Could it be that UFO sightings just aren’t that weird and wonderful anymore? Once relegated to overnight radio shows competing for air time with Sasquatch and that lizard from Loch Ness, UFO sightings are now basking in the light of a new day of respectability.
And unless they’re caught buzzing around military bases, UFO sightings have become the hockey highlights of the paranormal news roundups, something more politely sat through than eagerly anticipated.
A New Britain resident did just that when they caught a glimpse of a “cube-like” craft positioned right next to what they described as a “military Chinook helicopter” on February 13 at 2:37 in the afternoon. The photographer was filling up his truck when the chopper caught his eye, and he took the photo. It wasn’t until he was reviewing his work later that he realized he had captured a dark gray UFO in the process. The whole dance played out “about 500 ft. up,” according to the database entry.
Considerably larger than any military aircraft, at least from this planet, were the “two triangle humongous craft with lights under them two on the back and one in front,” spied over Colchester on March 9 at about 6:30 p.m. The enormous UFOs were seen moving slowly, hovering above Route 2 heading toward Norwich, and were just “beautiful,” according to the database entry.
Two more UFOs, this time of the traditional, saucer-shaped variety, were sighted over Route 8 in Naugatuck on January 26, at 7:08 in the morning. The resident described themself as an experienced pilot and flight instructor, and so knew what’s normal, and what’s not, in the skies above Connecticut.
“What isn’t normal is how these two aircraft moved and hovered,” the pilot posted in the NURC database. “They just stayed stationary for about 5-8 minutes before slowly beginning to move westbound. They maintained equal distance apart and went the same speed when moving. The shape, white color illuminated by the rising sun, hovering and movements just seemed off and unlike standard aircraft.”
Less traditional was the UFO that “looked like an orb with an arm on top (shaped like a Sunfish) maybe white/silver and red,” that appeared without a sound over Waterbury around 6:30 p.m. on April 6:
“My husband and I were outside on our back patio when I saw it hovering over the neighbors house in broad daylight. It looked like it was surveying or taking pics. It moved in a straight line, fast. It was about 3000-5000 ft in the air.”
The fireball tango was a popular dance in the skies during the first part of 2023 over Connecticut. An East Hartford resident said it played out for her for over two minutes as she got off the bus around 7:35 p.m. on March 11:
“As I looked up I seen two bright fiery red spheres as the red lights moved slowly across the night sky they got closer to me then they disappeared into the clouds I waited for the two spheres to reemerge out the clouds they never did as I continued to walk I looked at the left where I saw the first two spheres I noticed two more further back so I pulled my phone out and started recording as I recorded the two spheres they got closer I did not know what they was…”
Another experienced Connecticut sky watcher said they were caught off guard by what they described as “a jet chasing a ball in the sky” over Bridgeport about 11:46 p.m. on May 1.
“It wasn’t a regular plane because of how fast it was going, it was literally on the (expletive) of this light ball and it literally just look like a jet chasing a ball in the sky,” according to the report. “I knew it was some type of plane because I saw the wings and the lights but it was moving too fast to be a regular plane and it was too close in proximity of this light ball.”
Synchronized spacecraft are spooky enough, but someone should draw the line at them bursting into flames. Clearly, there was no such restraint in the sky over Milford ten minutes before 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 9 when a resident reported seeing a “a white circle then turn into flames and it went from right to left straight across sky towards Jupiter. Lasted about 8 seconds. Then 5 minutes later we saw just a fireball not a white circle. But this time went from left to right. Heading away from Jupiter. It lasted 3 seconds apx. I know it wasn’t a plane bc a plane passed by a little later but this was legit a fireball. Then later on after the fire hall went left to right heading away from Jupiter, there was a helicopter heading towards where it went and had spotlights on. I love UFOs so I may be biased but I know what I saw.”
