Nebraska official says he’s been called ‘unpatriotic’ by election conspiracy theorists
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has often found himself the target of election conspiracy theorists — usually fellow Republicans.
Evnen spoke with the Associated Press for an article about patriotism in which he described the accusations as maddening.
He said conspiracy theorists often call his patriotism into question just for disagreeing with them about electoral fraud.
Evnen told the AP it’s gotten to the point that, “Anyone who strays from orthodoxy is labeled unpatriotic.”
The article covers how the term “patriot” has evolved over the years, including its popularity among far-right and extremist groups.
Many have been focused on fighting election processes, LGBTQ+ rights, vaccines and immigration.
