Moon Landing

Russia Is Planning To ‘Check’ If Americans Actually Landed On The Moon

In 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon and three men became the first-ever humans to walk on the lunar surface. Neil Armstrong’s “One small step for man, a giant leap for mankind,” was met with a lot of cheering and whistling and clapping – most of all in the US. The US had outraced Russia in the space race. If you thought, that was that, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Soon after the moon landing, conspiracy theories started pouring in, claiming that the moon landing was actually fake.

The pictures of the landing were microscopically scrutinized and full-fledged documentaries were made to convince the world that USA’s moon landing was nothing but a hoax.

So, Dmitry Rogozin – the head of Russia’s national space agency Roscosmos, has offered to “check” whether or not the Americans actually set foot on the moon.

Speaking to Igor Dodon – President of Moldova –  about the prospects of a moon base, Rogozin suggested that it was impossible for one country alone to bear all the expenses of a moon program.

When asked if American astronauts landed on the moon, Rogozin replied with a smile, “We have set a task to fly and see whether they were [on the Moon] or not.”

“They say that they were, so we will check [it],” Sputnik News quotes him as saying.

Roscosmos announced that it would pen a new, multibillion-rouble Moon exploration programme, which will see Russia send its first manned mission to the Moon. It also plans to work with NASA to discuss the concept of a lunar orbital station.

Russia is also contemplating building a long-term base on the moon to help study earth’s natural satellite with the help robot avatars.
