Tucker Carlson ‘Open Minded’ to the Conspiracy Theory ‘Nazi Scientists’ Faked the Moon Landing for the U.S.

Tucker Carlson was the guest on a livestream hosted by The Blaze‘s resident troll Alex Stein, and it was a conversation chockfull of conspiracy theories that the ousted Fox host claims to be “open” to, including the theory that 1969’s Apollo 11 moon landing was faked by “Nazi scientists.”
Stein’s show, Prime Time with Alex Stein, was very friendly territory for Carlson and gave him an open platform to talk about pretty much anything. But the main topic was conspiracy theories, which can be very fun and weird! And apparently, not surprisingly, Carlson is very open to them. When Stein asked Carlson about Operation Paperclip, the NASA program that brought German scientists to America after World War II to help them develop their weapons technology and, later, their space program, he asked Carlson:
You know, we brought the top Nazi scientists, Wernher von Braun, being one of them, over to America to create our space program, NASA. He was best friends with Walt Disney. And then he was able to go to the moon in 1969 and 1972. Six different trips through backwards and forwards to the Van Allen radiation belt, 12 times with technology that they accidentally destroyed.
So my question for you is, do you think that the moon landing was real, and do you think that it was done by Nazis that were literally brought over during Operation Paperclip? Is that a conspiracy or is that true, in your opinion, Tucker?
Tucker, who wholeheartedly embraced conspiracy theorist Alex Jones as a “prophet” recently, was happy to consider it:
You know, I don’t know. I do know that the the original moon landing tapes have been erased at NASA because they needed, you know, the tape space. So they just kind of taped over them.
This made Stein positively giddy, and it’s actually true. In 2006, NASA did admit that the original recordings of the moon landing had been magnetically erased so they could be reused. Richard Nafzger, an engineer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said at a news conference, “The goal was live TV.” He added, “We should have had a historian running around saying ‘I don’t care if you are ever going to use them — we are going to keep them.’” Reuters noted, however, that copies of the original broadcast remain in several archives.
Stein also offered up further “evidence” as to why he thought the moon landing couldn’t have been real:
And the official story is that they lost the technology and it’s a painful process to build it back again. Yet Elon Musk’s own rockets can’t go… The moon is 257,000 miles away. Elon Musk’s rocket busted at less than 90 miles away. So we don’t have a space vehicle in the past 50 years that can even go 1/257000th, or whatever it is, the distance of the Apollo rockets.
And so it’s very unusual to think that the technology in 1969 somehow got deleted and that it went backwards. So I think that’s why the moon landing, I’m very passionate about it, I think it’s a big lie.
Tucker, once again, was noncommittal, but “open”:
Look, I’ve seen so many things that I believed revealed as lies in the past five or six years. And I’ve been shocked on almost a daily basis. And I’m much older than you. So I grew up in a country where people sort of believed things, including their government, which clearly had the capacity to do bad things. But most of the time we felt, living here, that it was doing the right thing. Yeah, and I’ve revised my view of that because I’ve had to, so I’m open-minded on it.
To be clear, it is not a conspiracy theory that NASA brought Nazi-affiliated scientists over from Germany after World War II to work on the burgeoning space program, and one name it was known by was Project Paperclip. It was also known as Project Overcast. The purpose was purely opportunistic for all parties involved: Americans wanted to beat Japan in the war, then after the war ended in 1945, they wanted to beat the Soviet Union in the Space Race. At the same time German relations with the Soviet Union had gone downhill, and a lot of those Germans were eager to atone for their Nazi affiliations and get that red off their ledger.
But the moon landing happened.
