North Texans see strange lights in sky on Sunday night

DALLAS — North Texans sent in footage on Sunday night of some unique looking lights moving across the sky, but what were they?

Well, they weren’t UFOs. They were actually lights from satellites being sent into orbit.

SpaceX said on Sunday they would be launching 23 Starlink internet Satellites into orbit from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

A Falcon 9 rocket lifted the satellites off at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday.

This was the 16th launch for this particular booster, SpaceX said. The first stage of the rocket came back to Earth after 8 and a half minutes, while the upper stage hauled the satellites into low Earth orbit where they were deployed more than an hour after liftoff.

This was SpaceX’s third orbital launch of the year with more planned. SpaceX representatives have said they are planning to launch 144 missions this year, breaking the record of launches set last year at 98.
