Project Runway’s Kovid Kapoor slams ‘crazy’ theories designer ‘predicted’ Covid
PROJECT Runway alum Kovid Kapoor has opened up about being a part of the Emmy-winning program and the wild coincidence that the designer’s fabric mask line came before the pandemic.
Kovid’s career has blossomed since being on Project Runway, and the Indian designer exclusively talked to The U.S. Sun about the crazy journey from being at the center of false “conspiracy theories” to landing a collaboration with SHEIN.
Fans of Project Runway may remember Kovid’s moment on Season 17 featuring a line incorporating fabric masks.
Kovid explained that the episode was filmed in summer 2017, years before the pandemic began.
As far as the initial inspiration behind the line, Kovid told The U.S. Sun, “I was thinking about a post-apocalyptic world.
“Coming from India, a lot of people wear masks, especially in a place where pollution is so high.”

“I wanted to create awareness about what we are doing to our planet,” the designer added.
UNCANNY!
When the pandemic began in 2020, fans were absolutely floored by the uncanny coincidence between Kovid’s name being the same as Covid-19 and the use of the masks all the ways back in 2017.
Now looking back with hindsight, Kovid explained, “I had no idea [Covid-19] was going to happen.
“The minute Covid-19 started, there were a lot of people who kind of started thinking that I somehow predicted the pandemic.”

“There were a ton of comments associating me with a bunch of crazy organizations like Illuminati and that Project Runway was a conspiracy theory,” Kovid confessed.
The designer justified, “The look was just a coincidence and nothing that was pre-planned.”
Now that the episode of Project Runway where Kovid incorporated masks into the fashion line has released on Netflix, the star has experienced a fresh slew of harsh comments and wild conspiracy theories on social media.
Kovid chooses to look at the bright side and shared, “I ignore [the negative comments].
“I just concentrate on everything good [happening] and I like to drive positive energy.”
BRIGHT FUTURE
Kovid admitted Project Runway was a huge launching pad for a successful career in the fashion industry.
After starring on the reality competition show, Kovid landed a partnership with SHEIN.
“I’ve produced three lines with them now and it has been amazing,” the emerging designer remarked.
“I remember designing my first collection with them and it sold out in a week. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, what’s happening?!'”
The ambitious textile artist doesn’t plan to stop there and has big goals for 2024.
Kovid announced: “My New Year’s resolution is to release at least one garment every month and we have a new collection coming in September.”
