Sometimes it is better to say nothing at all.
Matt Burton will surely be thinking that after seemingly tying himself in knots when asked for his view on the flat Earth conspiracy theory this week.
Bulldogs star Burton, 23, made a guest appearance on the Let’s Trot Show recently – a podcast hosted by fellow footy stars Josh Addo-Carr and Josh Mansour.
Burton and Mansour discussed a range of topics, including the NRL pre-season, his early childhood growing up in Dubbo, NSW, as well as his no carb diet.
But it was a question from last week’s guest, radio presenter Kris Fade, that left Burton stumped.
In a segment whereby the previous guest asks next week’s guest one question, Burton read out the question asked by Fade.
‘Do you believe in that the world is flat,’ Burton read. ‘If no, some people do. What would you say to them?’
Mansour was shocked by the nature of the question.
‘F***, that is a good question,’ he said. ‘But it’s the most random … I did not expect that at all.’
It is unclear as to what Mansour expected Fade to ask.
Burton took the conversation in a surprising direction, giving a rather convoluted answer.
‘It’s a tough one, aye,’ he said. ‘Do you believe the world is flat. I don’t know, aye.
‘Yeah I believe it is.’
Mansour quipped: ‘No you don’t.’
‘Yeah I do,’ Burton answered.
‘You believe the world is flat,’ Mansour asked again.
‘Yeah. Well, like, it’s round. But it’s obviously flat because, if it was … I don’t know.
‘I actually don’t know.’
‘I’m lost now,’ Mansour admitted. ‘No, I believe it’s a sphere’
‘Yeah I obviously believe it’s like a sphere,’ Burton agreed.
It’s a good thing Burton is handy with a footy.
