Adverse consequences when facts about Jan. 6 are withheld | READER COMMENTARY
Armstrong Williams correctly, and importantly, highlighted the practice of “spiking” — or not printing articles — employed by the media (“Armstrong Williams: NPR whistleblower highlights everything wrong with journalism today,” April 24).
His beautifully phrased outline of the “hallucinatory” claims on electoral fraud speaks to the 61 court decisions proving no electoral fraud directly contradicting Fox News guests and opinions. To further elaborate, the Jan. 6 committee proved collusion to overturn the election starting at President Donald Trump’s desk.
Fox News settled the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit for $787 million. They have yet to admit a mistake, retract any of the lies purported by their many guests during the period subsequent to the election, nor set a broadcast to inform viewers of the clear truth. They additionally refused to broadcast the Jan. 6 committee hearings. In summation, they have left the idea of election fraud as a valid concern.
While not the sole reason, it is a huge contributing factor to the decline of belief in integrity of elections in the United States. In August 2023, a CNN poll found that 69% of Republicans and Republican-leaners believed Joe Biden’s win was not legitimate, which is delusional. They also support the Jan. 6 insurrectionists.
One final note, as Robert Mueller’s Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election concluded, “if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.”
