Avril Lavigne sets record straight about body double conspiracy theory

There’s an age-old conspiracy theory that singer Avril Lavigne just had to address.

Setting the record straight once and for all, the “S8ter Boi” singer appeared on Wednesday’s episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on May 15, where host Alex Cooper asked Lavigne what was the craziest rumor that she’s ever heard about herself.

Lavigne replied that she knew what Cooper was referring to, kicking off the discussion of the “dumb” rumor that Lavigne was replaced by a body double named “Melissa.”

“I know what you’re talking about,” the 39-year-old singer said.

This was all in reference to the infamous rumor that surfaced on internet forums in the early 2000s that claimed the Canadian star had died in 2003 after her debut album “Let Go was released and she was replace with a doppelgänger named Melissa.

“I mean, it’s just funny to me. Like, on one end, everyone’s like, ‘You look the exact same. You haven’t aged a day.’ But then other people are like, there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me,” she explained.

“Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right?” she admitted, while laughing a bit. “I feel like I got a good one. I don’t feel like it’s negative. It’s nothing creepy.”

“Obviously I am me, it’s so dumb,” she added.

But one thing the “Complicated” singer mentioned was the fact that body double rumors tend to run rampant when it comes to musicians.

Lavigne isn’t the only one accused of having a body double.

“I think that they’ve done that with other artists. I’m not the only one. I think, like, other people have that,” Lavigne said.

Cooper then pointed out that the conspiracy theory that was attached to the singer has more life to it than it did when the same thing happened with other artists.

“I’m telling you what’s crazy is you haven’t aged,” Cooper told the rocker. “I’m staring at you. And, like, I’m picturing you with your auburn hair. And I’m like, oh my God. You literally look the same from when you were younger.”
