Dems Blast Marjorie Taylor Greene for Jasmine Crockett Insult
House Republicans might be able to get away with calling Democrats “woke” or calling President Biden “old.” But they just learned a very important lesson – don’t you ever fix your lips to say anything about a Black woman’s lashes.
Since she came to Congress in 2020 Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has earned a reputation as someone who has no problem causing chaos. But the Georgia Republican stooped to a new low when she tried to come for Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in a May 16 House Oversight Committee meeting that went way off the rails.
The committee was set to discuss a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to release the audio recording of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur over his handling of classified documents.
Rep. Greene tried to take the conversation on a tangent, bringing up Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan, when Crockett asked, “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland. Do you know what we’re here for?”
That’s when Greene fired the first shot responding to Crockett’s question saying, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
At that moment, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) jumped in, calling out MTG for taking such a low blow.
“That is absolutely unacceptable,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?”
When MTG clapped back, asking “Are your feelings hurt?” AOC had to remind her Republican colleague that she’s from the Bronx, responding “Oh, girl. Baby girl. Don’t even play.”
Chaos broke out when other Dems jumped in trying to get Greene to apologize and have her insult stricken from the record. But when it was ruled that Greene’s remarks were not a violation of House rules, Crockett asked for a little clarification.
“I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling,” she said. “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
But while members of congress tried to get things back on track, social media was here for the fight, taking to X to cheer on Rep. Crockett, posting:
