Rep. Thomas Massie responds to ‘internet conspiracy theories’ after wife’s death
Two weeks after the passing of his wife, Rhonda, Thomas Massie posted an emotional message to social media, thanking people for their support and dismissing some “conspiracy theories” regarding her death.”It’s been two weeks since my lovely Rhonda passed and I am still devastated, but the four wonderful children she brought into this world and nurtured so perfectly have surrounded me with love and comfort,” Massie began the post.Massie posted to his social media pages on June 28, sharing the news his wife, Rhonda, died the day before. “Yesterday my high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years, the loving mother of our 4 children, the smartest kindest woman I ever knew, my beautiful and wise queen forever, Rhonda went to Heaven,” Massie said in the post.In his emotional post, he shared that Rhonda was the valedictorian at their high school, went to MIT where she received her degree in mechanical engineering and was a devoted mother to their family.He also shared he, Rhonda and their family spent the last week touring Mt. Rainier.In his post Thursday, two weeks after her passing, Massie said though he was first angry about any “internet conspiracy theories” he saw about her death, he has since found them amusing, saying she would too.”I know Rhonda would have laughed, and if I were on the outside I might have similar concerns,” he said in the post.He responded to those posts, saying without violating his wife’s privacy, he can dismiss some of the theories, saying neither he or his wife had and COVID-19 shots, saying they both “were both seropositive by the time they had become available.””…our house is very secure, family was in the house the night she passed, and an autopsy has been conducted (we do not yet have results),” Massie said in the post.He then joked that the “only credible conspiracy” he can think of was how “a gorgeous girl who was a literal genius conspired to make a congressman, who would be steerable by no one but her, out of an awkward nerd by taking him as her boyfriend at age 16 and committing to decades of continuously molding him into something better.”He ended the post by saying he would return to work, asking for grace and patience during this time.The post was met with supportive messages from colleagues and others.
