A previously unseen video from 9/11 showing the Twin Towers collapsing has been posted online 22 years after the attack.

The clip was uploaded to YouTube by a man named Kei Sugimoto on July 23 and has led conspiracy theorists to bizarrely claim it proves the collapse was a ‘controlled demolition.’

Mr Sugimoto says he chose to post the video now ‘for historical purposes only’ after he found the recording while clearing out a wardrobe.

In the harrowing footage, Mr Sugimoto filmed the World Trade Centre from the roof of 64 Marks Place in New York City.

In the video smoke can be seen billowing from where the planes crashed into the towers. Meanwhile, police sirens can be heard blaring from the streets as the chaos of the tragic events of that day continue to unfold.

Less than a minute into the video the South Tower collapses and people across the city can be heard screaming in shock.

Mr Sugimoto then captures the immediate aftermath of the collapse of the first tower as a huge, all consuming, cloud of dust engulfs the city.

Towards the end of the footage – taken on a Sony VX2000 camera – the North Tower collapses leaving another cloud of dust in its wake.

Mr Sugimoto explained in the YouTube comment section about why he posted the footage now. He said: ‘I was cleaning my closet and found boxes full of Hi-8, Digital-8, and DV tapes.

‘When trying to play them back I noticed that maybe about a 3rd of them had demagnetised over time and were either blank, or suffering from major data corruption.

‘After researching online I learned that video tapes are not immune from age even when stored in ideal conditions, so I frantically started to digitise them. Thus I’m just uploading the video now.’

While he says he witnessed the second crash he only started filming after that because he thought it was ‘no ordinary accident.’

The clip has since gone viral on social media – gaining over 650,000 views on YouTube.

Many users have said the video shows a unique and previously unseen angle from the devastating terrorist attack.

On X one user said: ‘This footage offers a unique perspective not seen from the south or east.

‘You are watching these angles for the first time ever.’

The footage has also embolden conspiracy theorists who claim the footage proves the debunked theory that 9/11 was an inside job.

One user on X claims the footage proves the collapse was a ‘controlled demolition.’

They claim that from the angle in Mr Sugimoto’s video that explosive charges can be seen detonating.

This theory has been dismissed as structural engineers point out that the fast collapse of the towers was due to a combination of reasons.

These include the damage to the cores of the buildings which left them structurally weakened and because of the intense heat from the fires burning inside the building which reached as hot as 815 degrees celsius.

On September 11 2001 Al Qaeda terrorists launched a massive terror attack against the US which involved four planes. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers, a third plane crashed into the Pentagon and a fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania – killing 2,977 people.

The attack remains the deadliest terrorist attack in history.
