Rustad’s candidate believes 5G is a “genocidal” weapon: BC United

BC United on Tuesday said that another candidate on BC Conservative Leader John Rustad’s team is engaging in harmful, dangerous and weird conspiracy theories. Rachel Weber, BC Conservative candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie, has been revealed to be promoting conspiracy theories on social media claiming that 5G cell towers are “genocidal weapons” and the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, Weber shared multiple Facebook posts, including one from the page “STOP 5G GENOCIDE” that made claims “EMF’s + 60ghz (5G) IS A WEAPON!”. A separate post claimed that 5G will “mess with the absorption of oxygen in the human body” and is linked to the spread of Coronavirus.

“There is no other way to describe the views of John Rustad’s candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie other than downright weird,” said Mike Bernier, BC United MLA for Peace River South. “This is the sixth consecutive candidate from John Rustad’s team that has come under fire for extremist views and conspiracy theories. Rustad must explain why he continues to recruit and promote candidates that deny science and subscribe to weird theories from the darkest corners of the internet.”

Bernier said that despite these conspiracy theories having been thoroughly debunked, the posts remain live on Weber’s Facebook page. Rustad has previously fired four of his handpicked candidates: Jan Webb (Esquimalt-Colwood) for promoting the debunied theory of spike protein shedding; Dr. Stephen Malthouse (Ladysmith-Oceanside) for stating that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine can make you become magnetic; Damon Scrase (Courtenay-Comox) for a variety of posts deemend to be anti-LGBTQ; and Alexandra Wright (Kelowna-Mission) for calling for the arrest of Health Minister Adrian Dix and Provincial Helath Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

“These conspiracy theorists are the foundation of John Rustad’s party. Are people with these views really who you want in government? John Rustad’s party is not a conservative party, it is a conspiracy party,” said Bernier.
