RFK Jr. is here to stuff your stocking | Sheneman

In the short time since he was named as Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pledged to remove fluoride from the drinking water and announced his intention to repeal approval of the polio vaccine. Neither of these actions seem to to be conducive to health or humans, so maybe RFK Jr. and his brain worm aren’t the best choice to lead an agency devoted to the promotion and welfare of both.

The shift toward conspiracy-minded healthcare doesn’t stop with vaccines. As I mentioned earlier, if confirmed Kennedy has pledged to remove fluoride from the drinking water, a longtime item on the wishlist of the tinfoil hat crowd. I haven’t kept up with whatever devious purpose fluoride is supposed to be helping the government achieve — last I checked it had something to do with mind control — but I know having it in the drinking water has been extremely beneficial for our overall dental health.

Not long after announcing his plan to make cavities great again, RFK Jr. doubled down with his nonsense about the polio vaccine. How dumb is rolling back approval of the polio vaccine? Even Trump had to come out and say he was a big believer in it. It’s the “believer” part of that last sentence where we as a nation are running into trouble.

When it comes to the polio vaccine specifically, and medical science in general, there’s nothing to believe, only objective fact. Jonas Salk’s revolutionary invention has eradicated polio in this country and saved millions from its debilitating effects. That’s true whether you believe it or not. The Republican Party has had a troubled relationship with objective truth this past decade or so, and it’s about to start having a bigger effect on your health.
