The ‘alien’ discovered in Antarctica: Mysterious feature that looks like an extra-terrestrial’s face is spotted near South Pole

A Google Earth sleuth claims to have found a figure that looks like an alien‘s face in the snow in Antarctica. 

A satellite image shared on the r/strangeearth Reddit page last week has sparked intrigue as it appears to show a grimacing face with a half-closed eye, a nose and a mouth moulded into the white snow. 

The face was spotted at a remote region in the southeast of the continent. 

The mysterious figure can be found on Google Maps when searching the coordinates 72°00’36.0″S 168°34’40.0″E. 

While the user who posted the image claimed to see an ‘alien face’ in the snow, some social media users were quick to liken the face to Megatron, a character in the Transformers franchise. 

Others, however, were certain that some sleuths were experiencing a simple case of Pareidolia. 

According to NASA, this is a psychological phenomenon that causes people to see faces in random objects where they do not exist, such as in clouds, rock formations and unrelated objects. 

It is a form of apophenia, which is when people see patterns or connections in random, unconnected data.

The Google satellite image had already been shared on Reddit in 2019, with conspiracy theorists claiming that the the strange discovery was evidence pointing of a hidden civilisation – possibly of alien origin – living under the Antarctic ice.

This is not the first time online sleuths have claimed to have found evidence of aliens on Earth. 

It comes after conspiracy theorists in 2019 said they had found alien faces, skulls and primitive cravings in photos of the red planet, but these claims were not backed up by scientific evidence. 

In another bizarre sighting in 2016, alien hunters said they spotted a mysterious ‘facehugger crab’ on the red planet. 

The claims were made after the Mars rover Curiosity captured an image of a fromation that looks like a cave mouth. 

After the picture was uploaded on a Facebook group for conspiracy theorists, a number of people said the figure looked like the facehugger monster shown in the 1979 film, Alien.

In another strange claim that year, alien hunters said they saw a woman on Mars after UFOvni2012 uploaded the image the image of the ‘woman’ on YouTube.

‘It’s hard to tell if this is a living being, or a statue of a being from long ago,’ said Scott Waring from UFO Sightings Daily.

‘However, a statue that small would be eroded and destroyed easily, so it has a higher chance of being a living being.

One of the commentators on the footage suggested that the ‘woman’ is an alien version of the Statue of Liberty.

‘If she would be standing on that cliff you maybe a lot taller than anybody from Earth’, he said.
