9/11 Truther Sneaked Into Super Bowl By Telling Security He Was Late

The most memorable quote from the Super Bowl was, unexpectedly, “Investigate 9/11. 9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government.” But how in the hell did that guy make it past so many levels of security to interrupt Malcolm Smith’s press conference in the first place? Pretty easily, it turns out.

NJ.com landed an interview with Matthew Mills, a 30-year-old from Brooklyn who describes himself as an independent journalist. And the most amazing part is that he didn’t merely sneak into the press conference—he talked his way into the Super Bowl itself. So much for all of that security theater.

Mills said he wasn’t planning to get inside the stadium, only to get close. But he saw an employee bus at the Secaucus Junction station, hopped aboard, and armed only with self-confidence and an old credential from a music festival he once covered, made his way past multiple layers of security.

He also used a common refrain whenever hassled by security, which is supposed verify each credential or ticket with a barcode along with putting attendees through other security screenings.

“I just said I was running late for work and I had to get in there,” Mills said. “It was that simple.”

“I didn’t think that I’d get that far,” Mills said. “I just kept getting closer and closer. Once I got past the final gate and into the stadium, I was dumbfounded.”

Once inside, it was no big deal to wander around freely, and once the game ended he was able to waltz right in to the media tent where press conferences were being held. It wasn’t his initial plan, he told NJ.com, but “I just saw my opportunity to get my word out there and I took it.”

Mills was arrested and charged with trespassing.
