Was JFK’s death a conspiracy? New revelations from investigations
The events that took place on November 22, 1963, were forever etched in the collective consciousness, when US President John F. Kennedy was shot dead while in a limousine. Although former Marine Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of the assassination, investigators did not have the opportunity to question him in detail.
Two days after the tragedy, Oswald was killed on camera by Jack Ruby, a nightclub owner. Kennedy’s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, formed a special commission – the Warren Commission – which concluded that Oswald acted alone, although the motive remained unclear. However, in 1975, a tape showing Kennedy’s assassination by Abraham Zapruder raised new doubts about the official findings. The jerk of Kennedy’s head suggests that the bullet was fired from across the road, from the grassy knoll, which would mean that Oswald was not the only culprit.
A congressional commission investigation in 1979 found that four shots were fired, not three, and found evidence that the assassination was part of a larger conspiracy. Several unexplained deaths of women who allegedly knew more about the assassination only cast doubt on the official account.
Conspiracy theories
Many theories point to possible conspiracies. Some suspected that the CIA was involved, while others believed that the Soviet Union or Cuba might have been involved in the assassination because of Kennedy’s political moves. Also, it is stated that Kennedy’s death could have been the result of disagreements with the Israeli government or even because of a conflict with the military-industrial complex.
Among the theories is the claim that his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, could have been the mastermind, while it is also mentioned that Jackie’s husband Aristoteles Onassis could be involved. Some went so far as to link the assassination to baseball player Joe DiMaggio, allegedly because of Kennedy’s role in the death of his ex-wife Marilyn Monroe. Even aliens were linked to this event, in the most bizarre version of the story.
It is difficult to give a true answer as to what happened, but there are those who still firmly believe that Oswald is guilty.
