According to the SSU counterintelligence, the Russians planned to remotely detonate the device near the checkpoint of the military facility, intending to kill their own agents in the blast.
The SSU preemptively identified and arrested the two agents while they were equipping the IED with additional shrapnel elements.

The arrest took place in a private building located directly opposite the main entrance of the military facility.
The suspects had rented the premises as an observation post, installing a hidden webcam on the window with remote access for Russian intelligence services.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators were cohabiting partners who were recruited by Russian defense intelligence while searching for easy earnings in Telegram channels.
During the search, the law enforcement officers seized components for assembling the IED, a video camera used for surveillance, mobile phones containing evidence of the crime.
The SSU has charged the detainees under: Part 2, Article 28, and Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law in conspiracy by a group of persons), Part 1, Article 14, and Part 2, Article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act).

The suspects are currently in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported that a 45-year-old Kyiv resident was sentenced to four years in prison for making a false bomb threat targeting the Southern Bridge in the capital.
