As part of The Final Experiment (TFE), a believer in the flat Earth theory admitted on live camera that he was wrong in believing that there is now 24-hour Sun after visiting Antractica. TFE is an initiative that takes believers and non-believers of the flat Earth theory to Antarctica to convince the former that the Earth is indeed round.

The objective is to convince them by showing them that the Sun does not set for 24 hours in Antarctica, which would be impossible if the Earth were flat. The flat earthers and globe earthers made their way to Antarctica earlier this month, and in a live stream from Antarctica, flat earther Jeran Campanella, who runs the YouTube channel jeranism, admitted that he was wrong about believing that the Earth is flat.

YouTube Admits He Has No Answers About Flat Earth After Witnessing 24 Hour Sun In Antarctica

One of the key beliefs of the flat Earth theory is that it is impossible to have the Sun moving in opposite directions in the North and South Poles. Since the Earth is spherical, the Sun stays in the sky even at midnight in the polar regions. While the azimuthal equidistant (AE) map used by flat Earthers accounts for the 24-hour day at the North Pole, it cannot explain the Sun moving in the opposite direction in Antarctica.

The different directions of the Sun’s movement are only explained through a spherical Earth, which means that observers on the North and South Poles witness the Sun on opposite sides of the same plane. This difference in motion is at the heart of the TFE, and this year, the project’s leader, Will Duffy, took a host of YouTube content creators to the South Pole.

Flat Earthers also reject a 24-hour Sun by doubting all video evidence provided. By visiting the South Pole and watching not only a 24-hour Sun but also its motion, believers in the theory had no choice but to renounce their beliefs.

After he witnessed a 24-hour Sun in Antarctica, Campanella was blunt in sharing with viewers in a livestream that he had been proven wrong. “Sometimes, you are wrong in life,” the YouTuber shared, adding that “And I thought that there was no 24-hours Sun. In fact I was pretty sure of it.” He admitted that it’s “a fact, the Sun does circle you in the South.” Campanella believes that “At least you should be able to accept that the Sun does exactly what these guys said, as far as circles the Southern continent.

Since Campanella is one of the most prominent proponents of the flat Earth theory, he was also wary of criticism from his followers. The YouTuber outlined that “I realize that I’ll be called a shill for just saying that. And you know what, if you’re a shill for being honest, so be it. I honestly believed there was no 24-hour Sun, and I honestly now believe there is.” Not only did he witness the Sun remaining in the sky for a day during his trip, but Campanella also discovered that “It seems like the Moon does circle here as well.”

However, while he admits being proven wrong about not believing in a 24-hour day, the YouTuber added that “It doesn’t mean the AE map is over, flat Earth is over. Maybe somebody’s got the answer. I don’t have that answer right now.”
