GOP Senator Pushes Conspiracy Theory That 9/11 Was an Inside Job: ‘My Eyes Have Been Opened’

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) suggested Monday that the US government may have played a role in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during an interview with MAGA influencer Benny Johnson on The Benny Show.

The senator, who sits on the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, questioned the official explanation for the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 and echoed claims frequently raised by conspiracy theorists on the fringes of the internet.

“Within these agencies, a lot of them are going to cover their tracks and cover things up and destroy a lot of evidence,” the senator said. “It’s gonna be very frustrating for the American public because this is their information. They deserve the truth. It’s been hidden from them way too long.”

Sen. Johnson praised Benny Johnson for “opening up the aperture on 9/11” and referenced firefighters’ statements about the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

“I know you and I are both considered conspiracy theorists,” Johnson said, “but that’s exactly how they keep this stuff covered up.”

The two also discussed the possibility of Congressional hearings into the 9/11 attacks. When asked what he wanted to know, Sen. Johnson focused on Building 7 – which conspiracy theorists have claimed went down in a controlled demolition.

Those theories have been thoroughly debunked.

“Start with Building 7,” he said. “I don’t know if you can find structural engineers other than the ones that had the corrupt investigation inside NIST that would say that thing didn’t come down in any other way than a controlled demolition.”

He cited reports of “molten steel” and the destruction of debris as reasons to question the official narrative.

“Who ordered the removal and the destruction of all that evidence?” the senator asked. “Where’s all the documentation from this investigation?” The Wisconsin Republican added:

Again, you listen to the documentary Bravo 7. There’s an awful lot of questions. Who ordered the removal and the destruction of all that evidence totally contrary to any other firefighting investigation procedures? I mean, who ordered that, who was in charge? I think there’s some basic information. Where’s all the documentation from this investigation? Wow there are a host of questions that I want and I will be asking quite honestly now that my eyes have been opened up.

Johnson said he has spoken with former Rep. Curt Weldon (R-PA) and plans to work with him “to expose what he’s willing to expose.”

Benny Johnson chimed in, “So we may actually see hearings about this?”

“I think so,” the senator replied while referencing previous efforts to obtain unredacted FBI files on behalf of 9/11 families.

“We want to get those answers, those documents for the families,” he said. “Hopefully, now with this administration, we can find out what is being covered up.”
