Don’t believe claim that Stacey Abrams was indicted on voter fraud charge in Georgia

Don’t believe claim that Stacey Abrams was indicted on voter fraud charge in Georgia
Claim:

In September 2025, former Democratic Georgia State Rep. Stacey Abrams was indicted on a voter fraud charge.

A rumor that circulated on social media in September 2025 claimed Stacey Abrams, a voting rights activist and former Democratic Georgia state representative, was indicted on a voter fraud charge.

For example, conservative commentator David J. Harris Jr. posted (archived) a meme showing a side-by-side image of Abrams and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. The meme read, “Stacy [sic] Abrams indicted for voter fraud in Georgia. The ‘voter rights’ queen voted 3 times using 3 names.”

Other users shared the same rumor on X (archived here and here). Many commenters questioned whether the rumor was true or seemed to interpret it as a factual recounting of real events.

Snopes readers also wrote to us and searched our website looking for information about Abrams’ supposed indictment.

However, there’s no evidence Abrams was indicted on a voter fraud charge. Instead, the rumor stemmed from a satirical Facebook page called America’s Last Line of Defense.

Searches for Abrams’ name on the U.S. Attorney’s Office news pages for Georgia’s Southern and Northern districts returned no results. Likewise, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation had not posted a news release about Abrams being indicted as of this writing. If the rumor were true, federal or state officials likely would have shared news about the indictment because Abrams is a public figure and former state representative.

Searches of Google, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo also found no reputable news outlets reporting on the story. The DuckDuckGo search displayed an AI-generated overview that read:

Stacey Abrams has not been indicted; however, there have been ongoing investigations and political controversies surrounding her, particularly related to her nonprofit work and campaign finance issues. Recent developments include a Georgia Senate inquiry into her activities, but no formal charges have been made against her.

Rumor stems from America’s Last Line of Defense

The rumor about Abrams being indicted originated with America’s Last Line of Defense — a network of Facebook pages and websites that describe their output as satirical.

On Sept. 3, the America’s Last Line of Defense Facebook page shared (archived) a meme using the same side-by-side photo of Bondi and Abrams. It read, “Stacy [sic] Abrams, who championed the cause of ‘voter rights,’ has been indicted in Georgia…for voter fraud. ‘Abrams brazenly showed up to vote at three different locations, using three different names.'”

The page also shared another variation of the rumor in May 2025 (archived).

The intro of the America’s Last Line of Defense Facebook page read, “The flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery and propaganda for cash. Nothing on this page is real.” The URL for its Facebook page also included the word “satire.”

For further reading, Snopes previously investigated a claim that the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency discovered a $2 billion government grant paid to a nonprofit group linked to Abrams.

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources calling their output humorous or satirical.
