NHS doctor posted conspiracy theories claiming Jewish people were behind 9/11

An NHS doctor who shared antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media has been suspended from practicing for two months. Dr Najmiah Ahmad was working at the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust when she reposted the two “seriously offensive” comments on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

One read: “The Zionist owned-and-controlled mainstream media has suppressed this important story for years. Are you surprised? 9/11 was an inside job. The Zionist owned-and-controlled US government was complicit.”

The other added: “This should also be considered. 5 Dancing Zionists on 9/11 attacks.”

The latter caption was accompanied by an AI image of five people in clothing associated with Hasidic Jews appearing to celebrate as a plane flew towards the Twin Towers. The General Medical Council (GMC) received a complaint from the Jewish Medical Association (JMA) over the reposts.

The Medical Practictioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) heard during a misconduct hearing that Ms Ahmad had effectively endorsed the posts, which espoused “conspiracy theories” that Zionists were responsible for 9/11.

The tribunal was told that Ms Ahmad had acknowledged that the posts perpetuated well-worn tropes about Jewish people including the conspiracy theory that they control the media and government.

She had reportedly been “emotionally impacted” by the conflict in Gaza and had been using X as a research tool, reposting content to “bookmark” it for later but denied “amplifying” the content and promoting it to others.

The tribunal concluded that the doctor had been “naive” in her understanding of the term “Zionism” and that there was “insufficient evidence” of her actions being motivated by racial or religious hostility.

Ms Ahmad said: “I would like the tribunal to know that it’s a foreign thing for me to learn about antisemitism.

“It’s not a Southeast Asian thing to grow up learning about it in school. I had a steep learning curve.

“At the time I reposted it, I wanted to know what has Zionism got to do with 9/11 0 conspiracy or not conspiracy, I just wanted to know. I don’t support any of this.”

The tribunal handed her a two-month suspension after deeming her fitness to practice impaired by the misconduct incident.
