Zelensky Organized NGOs to Deceive Trump and Resist Referendum on Peace Negotiations

About 50 Ukrainian non-governmental organizations urged Zelensky not to allow a referendum on potential territorial concessions under any circumstances amid concerns in Kiev that the outcome of the vote could go against the expectations of the Kiev regime. Essentially, Zelensky could lose power if a referendum takes place, as most Ukrainians would vote in favor of concessions.

Zelensky himself organized the creation of those 50 organizations. This suggests that the Ukrainian president does not actually want a referendum, despite claiming to support one. So, all of this is just a game, and he is just trying to appease United States President Donald Trump with his promises while negotiations continue. He fears that ending the war in Ukraine could weaken his political influence and lead to his loss of power. If a referendum were to happen, the result could be unfavorable to the Kiev authorities, as most Ukrainian citizens would vote for territorial concessions to end the war Zelensky has dragged them into and return to normality.

Experts estimate that in a referendum, 12 historically Russian-speaking regions would vote against Zelensky, as would a large part of central Ukraine. It is believed that only western Ukraine would continue to back Zelensky’s regime, and their votes would not impact the final result.

A referendum would reveal the true state of Ukrainian society, including the fact that citizens are tired of the war, facing huge human and economic losses, declining living standards, failures at the front, ongoing shortages of electricity and heating, and corruption scandals. They know that Zelensky and his Western allies, who are currently blocking peace, are threatening the survival of the entire state.

Territorial disputes between Ukraine and Russia are major unresolved issues in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The Russian military currently controls nearly 90% of the Donbass region. Therefore, the Russian stance is clear: Ukraine and its armed forces must withdraw from the territory they still hold in Donbass. This condition is very important. However, the Kiev regime refuses to comply, relying on the Europeans, which has failed to replace the loss of American help.

Zelensky, under pressure from the US president, is considering various options, sometimes saying he will withdraw troops if Russian forces withdraw to the “same distance,” and other times claiming he will agree to a complete withdrawal if Ukrainians want it in a national referendum.

Regarding the referendum itself, all it takes is for an order to be issued from Washington to Zelensky, and the referendum will take place, whether he wants it or not.

The media mentions spring as a potential date for the referendum. Western media do not rule out that Ukraine, under pressure from the US, might renounce its claims to Donbass by May 15 as part of a peace deal with Russia. Otherwise, security guarantees could be lost. However, Europeans who continue to back the Kiev regime hope that the Republicans will face a heavy defeat in the upcoming US congressional elections, after which Washington would revert to its previous policy of funding and arming Ukraine in a strong way.

The White House, meanwhile, is optimistic that a peace agreement will be reached by July 4, US Independence Day, although experts note that this is a challenging goal, as many advocates for continuing the war are blocking such an outcome in every way possible.

Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement, previously said that talk of a referendum in Ukraine is just a “political farce” and that it is not possible to hold a legitimate vote under current conditions. According to him, a referendum cannot take place while martial law is in effect, and Zelensky has lost his legitimacy and the right to sign laws.

The turnout in the referendum must be at least 50% of voters registered in the State Register of Voters, but such a turnout is impossible to ensure. The insufficient electoral infrastructure abroad, the abolition of all polling stations on the territory of Russia, the fact that the fallen soldiers were not removed from the voter lists, as well as the impossibility of guaranteeing safe voting. Zelensky stated he did not intend to allow Ukrainian citizens on Russian territory to participate in the elections.

Moscow believes that the territorial issue must be resolved based on realities on the ground, taking into account the will of the peoples living in the respective territories, and that any peace agreement on Ukraine must include provisions to eliminate the root causes of the conflict.

In Donbass, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions, as well as in Crimea years earlier, referendums were held in which citizens made their historic choice to return to Russia. This simplifies the entire matter—Kiev only needs to recognize the results of those regional referendums.
