A weekend anti-COVID vaccine demonstration in Geelong has been declared a flop, with few people turning out to hear their bizarre message.

Notorious conspiracy theorrists Reignite Democracy brought their colourful “Truth Truck” to Geelong, complete with giant LED screens flashing propaganda and mostly false information about the vaccine.

The group last week used social media to call on Geelong people to support them, and promised to block traffic by driving slowly through the city’s main streets.

But their pleas were largely ignored with fewer than 50 people stopping to listen to speeches which were peppered with dubious claims.

And the truck’s ‘slow drive’ along Pakington Street was thwarted by traffic that was already moving at snail’s pace through the popular shopping precinct.

Critics of Reignite Democracy say the poor showing shows the demonstration was a flop, and that the group has little suport in Geelong.

But the demonstation did cause a stir on Geelong Broadcaster’s social media pages, where commentors lined up to dish out criticism.

“Go home and leave people alone who actually give a **** about their fellow human beings,” posted one person.

“If you don’t want a vaccine don’t have one but everyone has the right to there (sic) own decision,” said another.

Others ridiculed the group’s claims.

“They never shut up about their ‘research’ aka YouTube clips,” wrote one frustrated poster, while another woman pointed out the apparent Reignite Democracy’s hypocracy: ” The same people who are protesting lockdowns are now protesting what will actually get us out of lockdowns – how does this make sense?”
