Former Arizona Governor to speak at UFO conference

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington is headed to Congress. No, it’s not what you’re probably thinking. On Wednesday, Symington is scheduled to be a keynote speaker at the International UFO Congress. Established in 1991, the organization usually holds its annual conference in downtown Phoenix but will live stream the event this year due to COVID-19.

Symington’s participation in this event should come as no surprise, given his link to one of the most famous mass UFO sightings in state history.

Twenty-four years ago, when Symington was governor, the Phoenix Lights were spotted over Arizona, and to this day, nobody knows for sure what they were or when they came from.

At the time, Symington publicly mocked any suggestion that the mysterious lights were proof of aliens. But years later, he was telling a different story, describing the lights as “otherworldly.”

We were unable to contact Symington for comment on this story. But his participation in this year’s UFO conference comes at a time of increasing interest in the subject. A couple of years ago, the New York Times published video footage of Navy pilots chasing unknown objects. And this summer, the Pentagon released its much-anticipated report on UFOs.

The report found no evidence that alien spacecraft have been spotted. However, the report could only explain one of the 144 sightings from 2004-2021 that were looked at.
